I am an award-winning Chicago-based American journalist covering celebrity and lifestyle industries with over 10 years of experience. I spent over 5 years at the industry fashion and retail trade “bible” WWD, aka Women’s Wear Daily, where my beat was first sportswear and then accessories and fine jewelry for 4 years. My career witnessed the shift from traditional print media to the evolution of digital. In this role, I gained expert knowledge of the design world, the wholesale and retail markets as well as the marketing that supports them. Along the way, I met endless creatives and business people who create luxury from inception to POS with the consumer.

Starting out with a new workout routine when you’ve never been much of a fitness person yourself before can be difficult. It can be especially difficult to keep the motivation going, to get yourself out of bed or after work to the gym or for a run. Once you get into the routine and start getting used to it, it gets a lot easier, especially when you start to see the results.

These are some other ways you can keep yourself motivated to stick to your workout routine.

Change how you view yourself

Stop viewing yourself as someone who is trying to get into fitness, and start viewing yourself as an athlete or sports professional. If you get into this mindset, you will be surprised how much easier it is to get yourself up and ready to go. If you start looking at your workouts as a positive rather than a negative, then you will be much more motivated to go and do them.

Set some goals

Setting goals gives you a vision that you can work towards. People who are just starting out in fitness often make the mistake of just working out for the sake of it. By setting goals, you have something to work towards and you can see yourself taking those steps towards them. It is highly motivating to see yourself progress towards your end goals.

Set up a regular schedule for working out

By setting up a regularly scheduled time for working out, it gives you something you know you have to do at a certain point. This ensures that you will work out as you now have an event on a schedule which you must attend. Treating it as if it is a meeting or a lunch with a friend will make you more obligated to have to go.

These have been some tips to keep you motivated to work out, and if you stick with it, you will see results.
