With the office culture being continuously fractured as time goes on and technology develops, there are innovations coming out of the woodwork that is making the whole change feel a little more normal.

Virtual phone numbers have changed the game, bringing offices closer together while saving money and looking good while doing it. They work on multiple levels and can be used across the country with no issue whatsoever.

What Is A Virtual Phone Number?

Simply put, a virtual phone number is a digitally created number that isn’t linked via traditional means to a particular landline or device. It instead acts as a mediator, forwarding calls that use the number to any number of registered devices that are decided by the client who is using the virtual phone number software.

They’ve gained prominence as the internet took over more and more, with VoIP becoming more prevalent in industries around the world and the country in a short span of time.

A virtual phone number also has the ability to be personalized which is especially useful for smaller companies or companies who have a lot of competitors in their area and require a bit of illumination or something to catch the eye and attention of prospective clients.

The Pandemic Impact

While the notion of a virtual phone number has been around for some time, it wasn’t until the lockdown and pandemic began that there was an incessant rise in their usage and discussion. It seemed all of a sudden that there was a rise in the use of virtual phone numbers, and it was a direct correlation with he fact that many businesses wanted to keep the uniform façade going, even if there was no one in the physical office.

This is where the virtual phone system makes it’s mark known, as workers were stuck working from home, the cost of moving and setting up so many phone lines that were once hardwired in one physical space was too grand and confusing for most.

The use of a virtual phone number allowed an office or business to keep a singular point of contact available for clients with the calls being magically rerouted to their intended destination with no delay. This allowed the office to be anywhere a mobile or landline was handy, and thus, the home office was elevated to a new status.

The New Norm

While many people believe that the pandemic will magically dissipate, it’s not looking like everything will suddenly be back to the way it was before. Especially when it comes to offices, the inherent benefits being found with home offices has been quite interesting to see. So it would appear that as long as home offices are somewhat the new norm, it stands to reason to believe that virtual phone numbers are following suit.

Allowing any office to be anywhere at anytime is a freeing sensation for workers who were once chained to their desks waiting for an important call.
